Impact Reporting Website Design Turning Programme Data into a Compelling Story of Impact
One of the most important challenges facing public sector programmes today is demonstrating value. Employers want to know that their contribution is making a difference, schools want evidence that partnerships deliver meaningful outcomes, and stakeholders increasingly expect measurable results that justify continued investment.
As part of the Bristol WORKS website redevelopment, Xelium designed and developed a dedicated Impact Page to bring together programme metrics, employer engagement, school partnerships and student outcomes in one accessible location.
Rather than simply presenting statistics, the page was designed to tell the story of Bristol WORKS through evidence, real-world examples and ongoing programme activity. The result is a page that strengthens credibility, builds trust and encourages both employers and schools to become part of the programme.
Bristol WORKS Impact Page: Designing for Accountability & Confidence
For organisations working within the public sector, demonstrating accountability is just as important as communicating services. From the outset, our goal was to design a page that answered three important questions:
- What difference is Bristol WORKS making?
- How extensive is its reach across Bristol?
- Why should employers and schools become involved?
By organising information into clearly defined sections, visitors can quickly move from understanding the programme to seeing measurable evidence of its success. This creates confidence not only among employers and schools, but also among funding bodies, local authorities and strategic partners.
Providing Context Through the Programme Overview
Every successful impact report begins with context. The Programme Overview introduces visitors to the wider mission of Bristol WORKS, explaining how it connects employers, secondary schools and young people aged 11–16 through meaningful experiences of work.
Rather than assuming visitors already understand the programme, this section establishes the purpose, scale and objectives before presenting performance data. This narrative-first approach helps numbers become more meaningful because visitors understand the story behind the statistics.
Bringing Data to Life
Large amounts of data can easily overwhelm visitors if presented in spreadsheets or lengthy reports. Instead, Xelium designed the Key Impact Metrics section as a visual dashboard that allows users to absorb important information within seconds. The dashboard highlights measurable outcomes such as:
- Employers engaged
- Schools participating
- Student encounters
- Employer hours pledged
- Activities delivered
- Programme growth
Using bold typography, iconography and carefully organised content blocks, the statistics become easy to understand while reinforcing the scale of Bristol WORKS’ work across the city.
For public sector organisations, presenting performance data visually improves engagement and makes annual achievements more accessible to a wider audience.
Encouraging Action Through Measurable Results
The purpose of an impact page is not only to celebrate success but also to encourage future participation. The Activities Delivered section showcases the wide variety of employer engagement activities taking place through Bristol WORKS, from careers talks and mentoring to workplace visits and work experience placements.
By presenting these activities alongside clear calls to action, the page demonstrates that every employer contribution directly supports young people while inviting visitors to become part of the programme. Schools are encouraged to register their interest, while employers are invited to make a pledge, creating two distinct pathways that reflect the needs of the website’s primary audiences.
Demonstrating Value for Schools
Impact is measured not only by the number of activities delivered but also by the benefits experienced by schools. The Impact for Schools section explains how Bristol WORKS supports careers education by reducing administrative workload, coordinating employer engagement and creating structured opportunities that enrich learning.
Rather than presenting generic statements, the content highlights practical outcomes for schools, including improved employer access, coordinated work experience and enhanced careers education. By focusing on educational outcomes, the page demonstrates the long-term value of partnership rather than individual events.
Reinforcing Trust Through Governance
Public sector programmes are expected to demonstrate transparency as well as results. The Governance section explains how Bristol WORKS operates within a structured framework, working collaboratively with schools, employers and Bristol City Council while supporting recognised careers education guidance and best practice.
Including governance information helps reassure visitors that activities are coordinated professionally, delivered responsibly and aligned with wider educational objectives. This level of transparency is particularly important for local authorities, education providers and employers considering long-term involvement.
Demonstrating That the Programme Is Active
Many impact pages become static archives that are updated once or twice each year. During the redevelopment, we wanted to ensure visitors could also see evidence of ongoing programme activity.
The Ongoing Engagement section was designed to highlight current initiatives and reinforce that Bristol WORKS is an active, evolving programme delivering employer engagement throughout the academic year.
This naturally leads into the embedded LinkedIn activity feed, which showcases recent employer visits, careers events, school partnerships and programme highlights.
By combining structured website content with regularly updated social media activity, Bristol WORKS can continually demonstrate momentum without requiring constant website updates. This integration keeps the page fresh while encouraging visitors to follow the programme’s latest developments.
Ending with Purpose
Every page within the Bristol WORKS website has been designed around a clear objective. For the Impact Page, the objective is to transform confidence into participation. The final section invites employers and schools to become part of Bristol WORKS’ continuing success story.
Instead of simply celebrating previous achievements, the page concludes by looking forward and encouraging visitors to help shape future outcomes for young people across Bristol. The dual calls to action ensure both audiences have a clear next step.
Going Beyond an Impact Report
One of the strengths of the page lies in its flexibility.
The structure allows Bristol WORKS to continually expand and enhance the content through:
- Annual programme statistics
- Employer spotlight stories
- School success stories
- Student testimonials
- Interactive data dashboards
- Employer recognition initiatives
- Future programme reporting
By designing a modular page structure, Xelium created a platform that will continue to evolve as the programme grows.
The Result
The new Bristol WORKS Impact Page demonstrates how thoughtful digital design can transform performance reporting into a compelling engagement tool.
Instead of publishing isolated statistics, the page combines narrative, data, governance and real-world activity into a coherent story that illustrates the value of employer engagement and educational partnership.
The result is a page that strengthens programme credibility, supports stakeholder confidence and encourages future participation from both employers and schools.
