Book Landing Page Design Case Study: An Inspector Calls Edexcel IGCSE Revision Guide
Xelium designed and developed a long-format book sales landing page for Colour My Learning’s An Inspector Calls Revision Guide, the first title in its Essential Literature series of Edexcel International GCSE English Literature resources.
See how Xelium designed an SEO-focused book sales landing page for Colour My Learning’s Edexcel IGCSE An Inspector Calls revision guide.
The project brought together educational content, publishing, ecommerce and digital marketing. Colour My Learning, a Xelium publication developed the revision guide and its supporting learning resources. Bailbrook Lane Press, an imprint of Xelium published and distributed the books. Xelium created the digital sales experience needed to introduce the guide, explain its value and direct visitors towards the most appropriate purchase option.
The completed landing page provides a central online destination for students, parents, teachers and tutors searching for an An Inspector Calls Edexcel IGCSE revision guide. It also demonstrates how a carefully planned book landing page can support authors and independent publishers whose books are sold through several formats and retail channels.

Project Background
Colour My Learning has been producing educational articles, study advice and revision resources for students, parents and teachers for many years. The Essential Literature series extends that work into a structured collection of published Edexcel IGCSE English Literature revision guides.
The An Inspector Calls Revision Guide was the first complete title in the series. It was followed by guides for A View from the Bridge, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and Kindertransport.
Each main guide is designed to help students understand the text, develop stronger literary analysis and approach the examination with greater confidence. The books combine subject knowledge with practical revision tools, quotation analysis, essay planning and exam-focused guidance. The An Inspector Calls collection also includes two focused companion resources:
- An Inspector Calls: Past Exam Questions by Theme
- An Inspector Calls: Essential Themes and Quotes
The Past Exam Questions booklet is also available separately as part of the complete revision guide. The Essential Themes and Quotes booklet offers a shorter, targeted resource for students who only want to concentrate on the play’s major ideas and quotations. Its material is already included in the full revision guide.
The guide is available as a downloadable ebook and paperback on the Bailbrook Lane Press website. The paperback is also distributed through major booksellers including Amazon, Blackwell’s, Waterstones and Foyles, alongside direct purchase routes promoted through the landing page.

The Challenge
A standard e-commerce product page (image below) was not sufficient for this project. A revision guide is a considered purchase. Students need to understand how the book will help them. Parents want reassurance that it is appropriate for the correct examination board and age group. Teachers and tutors need confidence in its structure, coverage and educational value. The guide was also available in different formats and through several purchasing channels. Visitors might want:
- Immediate access to the ebook
- A printed paperback
- A purchase from a familiar national retailer
- A focused companion booklet
- More information before deciding which resource to buy
The project therefore needed a page that could explain the product in depth without becoming difficult to navigate. It also had to connect the educational authority of Colour My Learning with the publishing and e-commerce services provided by Bailbrook Lane Press. From a search perspective, the page needed to reach people using specific, high-intent searches such as:
- An Inspector Calls Edexcel IGCSE revision guide
- Edexcel IGCSE English Literature revision books
- An Inspector Calls themes and quotes
- An Inspector Calls exam questions
- An Inspector Calls revision guide for students
- English Literature revision guide for Year 10 and Year 11
The challenge was to create a page that worked as a persuasive book sales page, an informative educational resource and an organic search landing page.
Project Objectives
Xelium planned the page around several connected objectives:
- Establish the guide as a complete Edexcel IGCSE exam companion
- Explain exactly what students receive
- Address the needs of students, parents, teachers and tutors
- Provide clear routes to ebook and paperback purchases
- Highlight the free companion booklet and downloadable resources
- Reinforce trust through recognised retailer availability
- Support organic search visibility for relevant revision-guide searches
- Introduce the wider Essential Literature series
- Create a reusable structure for future book landing pages
- Build a digital platform that could support long-term publishing growth
Audience-Led Book Marketing
One of the most important decisions was to identify the different audiences visiting the page.
Students
Students are the main users of the guide. They need clear, direct information about how it will make revision easier and help them prepare stronger examination answers.
The page therefore focuses on practical outcomes:
- Understanding characters and themes
- Learning and analysing important quotations
- Improving essay structure
- Planning revision
- Practising examination questions
- Building confidence before the exam
The language remains encouraging and accessible. It avoids making the guide sound overly academic or difficult to use.
Parents and Guardians
Parents may be purchasing the guide on behalf of a student. Their priorities include curriculum relevance, value for money, ease of use and evidence that the resource provides meaningful educational support.
The page addresses these concerns by identifying the examination board, explaining the contents and showing the range of revision tools included.
Teachers and Tutors
Teachers and private tutors may recommend the guide, use sections during lessons or incorporate its activities into independent study.
For this audience, the page emphasises curriculum alignment, literary analysis, exam techniques, practice questions and structured planning resources.
Independent Learners and Home Educators
The guide also supports students working outside a conventional classroom setting. Clear explanations, self-assessment activities and reusable templates make the book suitable for independent learning and home education.
Separating these audiences helps visitors recognise that the resource is relevant to their circumstances. The live page introduces dedicated sections for students, parents and educators before moving into the detailed product benefits.

Introducing the Wider Series
The final part of the page places the guide within the Essential Literature series. This changes the commercial potential of the page. The visitor is not only discovering one An Inspector Calls book; they are being introduced to a growing collection of Edexcel IGCSE English Literature resources.
A consistent series identity also supports future cross-selling. A student studying more than one set text can recognise the format and move between guides with greater confidence. The landing-page framework can now be adapted for additional titles while retaining familiar design elements, purchase routes and audience messaging.
The Result
The completed page provides Colour My Learning with a dedicated destination for promoting the An Inspector Calls Revision Guide. It brings together:
- Educational information
- Audience-specific messaging
- Book previews and supporting resources
- Ebook and paperback options
- Direct and retailer purchasing routes
- Search-focused long-form content
- A clear introduction to the wider series
The page supports informed purchasing rather than sending visitors directly from a brief advert to a checkout screen. It also provides Bailbrook Lane Press with a stronger route into its ecommerce store and establishes a structure that can be reused as the publishing catalogue grows.
What Authors and Independent Publishers Can Learn from This Project
Publishing a book does not automatically create an effective online sales journey. A retailer listing may include a cover, price and short description, but it rarely gives an author enough space to explain the full value of the book. A dedicated book landing page can:
- Tell the story behind the publication
- Address different types of readers and buyers
- Present the book’s contents in greater depth
- Offer samples, bonuses and downloadable resources
- Connect print and digital editions
- Link several retailers without losing a central brand destination
- Build organic search traffic over time
- Introduce related titles and future releases
- Give authors greater control over their online presence
For independent authors, educational publishers and small presses, this creates a digital asset that continues working beyond the initial book launch.
